RATIONALE
Rubidium (Rb) is in Group 1 (alkali metals) and
Period 5 of the periodic table. It has a single
electron in its outermost shell, which is
relatively far from the nucleus and thus less
tightly bound. Therefore, it has a low
ionization energy, making it easier to remove
an electron.
Remember, ionization energy increases as
you move up and to the right on the periodic
table. Higher energies mean it is "harder" to
remove an electron
