TEAS 7 Comprehensive Science Study
Which hormone is released from the hypothalamus, sent to the thyroid & secretes T3, T4 and
Calcitonin?
ANSWER : Thyrotropin releasing hormone -> thyroid stimulating hormone The hormone
released from the hypothalamus that stimulates the thyroid gland to secrete T3 (triiodothyronine),
T4 (thyroxine), and calcitonin is called Thyroid-Releasing Hormone (TRH). TRH is produced by
the hypothalamus and released into the bloodstream. It travels to the anterior pituitary gland,
where it stimulates the release of Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH), which in turn stimulates
the thyroid gland to produce and secrete T3, T4, and calcitonin.
What does T3 and T4 do?
ANSWER : regulates metabolism
Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) becomes adrenocorticotropin and is sent to the arenal
glands.
What hormones do the adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla release?
ANSWER : •cortisol (fight or fight) & aldosterone (regulates salt & water)
•epinephrine & norepinephrine (prepares for fight or flight)
What releases growth hormone & where does it go?
ANSWER : Released by Anterior pituitary; sent all over the body for cells
Hormone that goes to mammary gland for milk production
ANSWER : Prolactin
