Answers to Unit Review
REVIEW QUESTIONS
1. Why is it important that the delivery person for a flower shop be well groomed
and well mannered?
Delivery people come into contact with many people while making deliveries. The image
that they present reflects upon the shop. Therefore, it is important that they make a good
impression.
2. What is the difference between a full-service florist and a mass-market florist?
The major differences between full-service shops and mass-market shops are in location
and services offered. Mass-market shops are usually located inside general merchandise
chain stores or grocery stores, whereas full-service shops are not. Full-service shops
offer delivery, set-ups for special events, charge accounts, and wire service. Mass-market
shops usually do not offer any of these special services.
3. How can the national or state FFA association help you train for a job in the retail
flower shop?
The FFA organization has contests that allow students the opportunity to produce floral
arrangements. This type of contest gives students practical designing experience that
would help in a retail flower shop.
4. Why is a friendly service attitude an important attribute of a salesperson?
The salesperson is usually the first person a customer encounters in a shop. A
salesperson’s friendly attitude communicates to the customer how the salesperson feels
about himself or herself, the company he or she represents, and the customers.
Customer satisfaction is just as important as the designs in the florist shop.
5. How can designers gain more experience in floral design and learn the latest
techniques?
Designers can gain more experience in floral design and learn the latest techniques by
participating in the design schools and workshops provided by their state florist
associations or other groups.
6. List five items that should be included on the résumé.
